Like to find out more about joining us? It's simple, fill out the application below and we'll review it and contact you within a day or so. Make sure and fill it out completely so we can make the best, informed decisions about how we can best serve your musical needs. There is no fee or charge to apply, although if you are accepted we will only hold a spot open for you for only 10 days after we notify you. Just a few things though...
First, we ONLY cover the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana & Wyoming. As much as we'd like to take everybody, we cannot. If you reside outside of our service area, use this page to find a record/music pool closest to you . Building a local, close personal relationship with your pool director works best for you (they get to know you and what you need--also much easier to resolve things) and for us in our quest to break new music in our area.
Second, if you are looking for underground music, a pool might not be for you. By its very nature, the pool system is designed to break commercial dance music or to help underground music crossover to commercial status. Underground music is a DJ tool only and the music companies that put it out cannot afford to service promos to the very intended audience that they need to have go and buy their product. If in doubt, check out our charts on any page then make your decision. We do get a lot of product you will like and often we receive longer unreleased mixes (that you won't see at retail) and always a killer dub you can use. Usually, we get serviced weeks or sometimes months before you heard it on the radio, so if getting the latest music BEFORE it's a hit is what you need, a pool is perfect for you. Not to mention, you can write off your pool dues to a professional organization on your taxes...so in essence it's free! While a pool will not give you every single song you need (we prefer to be honest about that upfront), they are still the most cost-effective way for DJs to get early service on the good stuff, discover unknown up and coming artists and save enough money to hit the record store and buy those killer imports! By the way, the best way to judge a pool is over at least a 3 to 6 month period as far as the music you will receive. The music industry is very up and down as far as their release schedule depending on the time of the year. We still receive vinyl as well as CDs and now MP3s!.
Third, potential members should be a working club DJ (2 nights or week or you can also be on a mix show and/or working in a retail store or any combination of the above). You do not have to submit a tape (we also accept up & coming DJ's and backup DJ's if you are working in the same club as the primary DJ AND at another club on your own). Once you complete this application, we will review it and contact you. We accept mobile DJ's if you are breaking music that is. If you feel you are not working enough hours, fill out the application anyway and we'll be in touch. Often we will work with up and coming DJs who might not have enough nights yet if they are as dedicated as we are!
Fourth, if we approve your application, you must contact us immediately (within 7 days.) Then you'll pay a one-time only initiation fee and your first month's membership dues as listed below. We do not pro-rate a partial month's dues, unless you want us to pro-rate the music...I thought not! Once those fees are paid we will give you the current month's selections to help you build your library up. If you come onboard as a full, regular member, you will receive dance AND urban product. Thereafter, dues will be billed to your account on the first of each month and you have until the fifth to pay your account up. After two month's of steady membership, we will give you MORE towards your backlog of music as a reward for your dedication.
Fifth, Members should provide us with timely feedback on the music we service and a Top 20 at least twice a month before the 1st and 15th of the each month. In-town members must visit the office; Out-Of-Town members can submit their information either by phone or via the Internet. We currently are serviced by most of the major record labesl and a large percentage of the smaller independent ones. We average over a 800-1000 pieces of music annually. If all you need is a good hit-based CD service, contact Promo Only at 407-331-3600 if that is your format of choice. On the other hand, many of our members prefer the sound of vinyl and rip their own CDs. As stated above, members can choose to have Mp3s serviced as well as access to our digital library.
Finally, those paying their dues on time every month (on or before the fifth) are first in line to request second copies. If you are a dance DJ who uses CDs, you can also purchase Poolnet CD service that is serviced ONLY to qualified record pool members (currently about 1000 nationwide and THAT'S IT, no Billboard Reporters, No Mixshows...unless they are in a pool!) By far the biggest benefit of joining our pool is the added satisfaction of working with a like-minded group of disc jockeys that have a history of breaking new music with the strongest ties at radio, radio mix-show and retail levels to truly influence the Pacific Northwest music market. Also it's a great chance to learn a craft that we take very seriously. This is not a game to us, it's our careers! We have been in existence for 30 years and we will gladly share our information and knowledge with any and all who take this as seriously as we do. A record/music pool is and should be more than just picking up music, it's about our DJ community. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT MUSIC FOR OUR CONSIDERATION, JUST SEND US AN EMAIL, NOT THROUGH THIS FORM. THANK YOU.
Initiation Fee =$100.00 / Dues: $60 per month.
Out-of-Town Memberships: add $20 to cover shipping.
At this time we are only offering full memberships which means you receive both urban AND dance music in all the forms we receive it, vinyl, CD and MP3s. We will also add you to our partial service list so that your service is taylored to what you need. Also, ask us about our new MP3 options for both dance AND urban music once your probation period is over. What labels do we get? What styles of music or what titles are we currently working? How many songs do I get each month? See our charts at the top any page to answer any of these questions. Want to know more? Call us at (206) 440-9780 any Wednesday, Thursday or Friday from 1 to 6 PM or feel free to drop by the office.
